Behind the Schwarzenbach dam you will find the largest reservoir in the northern Black Forest with about 2.5 km in length.
The dam and reserviur are located at an altitude of 668.5 metres between the Black Forest High Road and the Murg valley on the L 83, about 10 km from Forbach. The water runs in underground and above-ground pressure tunnels and pipes to the Rudolf-Fettweis-Werk (EnBW) in Forbach to generate electricity. Due to its idyllic location surrounded by Black Forest mountains, the lake is a popular destination for boating, hiking, cycling and fishing in summer and winter. The accessible retaining dam wall measures approx. 400 metres.
Circular path around the Schwarzenbach dam:
The circular path around the lake is about 6.5 kilometres long. It runs along the northern side of the lake and leads back through the forest on the southern side. Along the lakeside path you will find several information boards which provide information about the construction history of the dam and the technology used to generate electricity.
